New LPN Supervisory Course Launched - February 1, 2017

The Iowa Board of Nursing announces the approval of a new curriculum for the Supervisory Course for Iowa’s Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), offered by the National Healthcare Institute (NHI), IBON approved provider 376. The new course is a completely online course with access to an electronic textbook titled, Leading and Managing in Nursing.

NHI is launching the curriculum today. LPN supervisory employees may begin the new course by accessing NHI’s learning platform at Direct access to the course’s description and registration page can be found by clicking here. Licensees will be sent a detailed registration letter and course navigation guide upon payment for the course. To discuss corporate account information, contact Daniel Campos at or by telephone at 786.380.5135.

In order to allow existing or already-planned courses to finish, discontinuance of the old LPN courses offered by Iowa’s community college continuing education departments is set for July 1, 2017.  As of July 1st, the NHI course will be the only source for offering the new LPN Supervisory course in Iowa.

The Board and staff are pleased to offer this updated curriculum and course to Iowa’s LPNs. The online delivery of the materials will provide timely, accessible training. LPNs will be able to meet the legal requirement of obtaining their training within six months of beginning their duties as supervisors in Iowa’s healthcare facilities.

Contact: Laura Hudson @ or by phone at 515.281.8808.
