As of July 1, 2023, licensing and other health and occupational licenses will become part of the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals and Licensing (DIAL) as a new organizational structure for state government goes into effect. Government departments and agencies that provide related services or have similar business functions are aligning to better serve Iowans.

ARNP New Licensure Instructions

QUALIFICATIONS FOR LICENSURE AS REQUIRED BY 655 IAC CHAPTER 7

  1. Current licensure as a registered nurse in Iowa or licensure as a registered nurse in another compact state, which is your primary state of residence.  Primary state of residence is defined as the state where you hold a driver’s license, vote and pay taxes.
  2. Graduation from an accredited graduate or postgraduate nurse practitioner program in one of the following roles: Certified nurse-midwife, certified registered nurse anesthetist, certified nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist.
  3. Advanced level certification by an approved national certifying body.
