How do I apply for an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner license if I already have an active RN license in Iowa?
You can apply for an initial ARNP license online under IBON Online Services and then - Apply for Initial License as an ARNP. The fee for licensure is $81.00 and can be paid by credit card through the online application.
How do I apply for an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner license if I reside and hold active RN licensure in another compact state and need only the ARNP license in Iowa?
The same process applies as the question above, except, that you must also include a photocopy of your active RN License from your primary state of residence.
If I currently hold only an ARNP license in Iowa and move to Iowa or a Non-Compact State, do I need to apply for an RN License?
Yes, if you move to Iowa or a Non-Compact State, the Registered Nurse License currently held is no longer valid. You must apply for an Iowa Registered Nurse License by Endorsement.
How long will it take to issue my Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner license once my application, supporting documentation, and the official transcripts from my school have been received?
Obtaining the ARNP license depends on receipt of all the required documentation. Once all required documentation is received, applications are processed in the order received.
Can I renew my RN and ARNP licenses online?
Yes, all applications for renewal are available Online under IBON Online Services.
How will I be notified to renew an ARNP license?
Iowa does not mail renewal notification to licensees. Sixty (60) days prior to expiration you will be allowed to renew both the RN and the ARNP licenses. Your RN license must be kept ACTIVE in order to maintain an active ARNP license. If you reside in another compact state, active RN licensure MUST be held in that state. What if I am renewing only the ARNP license because I reside in a compact state?
Iowa does not mail renewal notifications to licensees. Sixty (60) days prior to expiration you will be allowed to renew. A photocopy of an active RN license from the compact state, or the ARNP licensure card (if the primary state does not require active RN licensure), MUST be submitted to the Iowa Board of Nursing after completing the online renewal application.
